The state owned Mysore Paints and Varnish Ltd, the only supplier of indelible ink for elections in the country
is gearing up to supply the indelible ink for the upcoming Lok Sabha election scheduled to be held April /May this year.
Company sources informed UNI, that the company has been supplying the indelible ink to all the elections since 1962 and the election commission of India has placed orders for the coming Lok Sabha polls also.
MPVL General Manager C Harakumar said that the Election Commission of India (ECI) had placed an order for 26 lakh (10 ml each) bottles in January this year. The company have started producing the ink.
Informing that the company has already supplied 20 lakh bottles (vials) of indelible ink to the Election Commission (EC) for the forthcoming Lok Sabha and Assembly elections, he said Six lakh more vials will be supplied within the next one week.
As per the instruction from the commission the indelible ink was supplied to all the states in the country.
He said that as per the new guidelines election commission had placed orders to supply bottles of indelible ink with 10 m l instead of 5 ml bottles earlier.
Our’s in the company in the country, was authorized to produce the indelible ink which used in the elections to prevent people from voting multiple times.
He said that the company had supplied about 2 million bottles during the 2009 elections, followed by about 2.5 million in the 2014 elections.
Electoal stain typically contains silver nitrate which stains the skin on exposure to ultraviolet light, leaving a mark that is impossible to wash off and is only removed as external skin cells are replaced. Concentration of silver nitrate varies from 7 percent to 25 percent. . Usually indelible ink is in vilelt colour, however the Suriname country ued orange colour ink in its legislative elections of 2005.
Apart from domestic trade we have been exporting this ink to other countries including Ghana, Turkey, Papua New Guinea, Fiji, island, Malaysia, Singapore, Nepal, South Africa, Canada, Cambodia, Mongolia, Afghanistan, and Pakistan ever since 1978.
Mysore paints and varnish limited (MVPL) specialises in manufacturing and supply of quality indelible ink, in association with the election commission of India, national physical laboratory, and national research development corporation. It is the sole authorized supplier of this type of foolproof indelible ink in India having exclusive license granted by National Research Development Corporation (NRDC), New Delhi since 1962.
Mysore Paints & Varnish Ltd., was established during 1937 by late Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wodeyar, then the Maharaja of Mysore province under the nomenclature “Mysore Lac & Paint works Ltd”. During 1989, it was renamed as “Mysore paints & varnish ltd in 1962, the election commission in collaboration with union law ministry, the national physical laboratory (NPL) and national research Development Corporation (NRDC) made an agreement with Mysore paints and varnish ltd., for supplying this ink for the parliament, assembly and other general elections to all the states in India.
