Spanish tennis player Rafael Nadal won the 2019 Roland-Garros (French Open) on Sunday bybeating beat Dominic Thiem of Austria.
This is the record 12th singles French Open title. He has also won other Grand Slam tournaments six times.
The 31-year-old Nadal improved his tournament record to 93-2. After converting his second match through a long forehand from Thiem, he emotionally lay on the ground of the Court Philippe Chatrier in spectators’ cheering. “This small things that I have been improving every single day and doing it with the right passion — thats all the reason for me to be back today where I am standing” Nadal told media persons.
It was the Spaniard’s third title at the tournament in consecutive years and 18th Grand Slam champion in total.
“After two sets, I dropped a little bit in my level. Then Rafa, who won this tournament 12 times, stepped on me,” Thiem commented.
