Kerala Health Minister K K Shailaja met Union Minister of Health & Family Welfare Harsh Vardhan here on Friday and discussed the status and preparedness of the state for containment and management of Nipah virus disease.
The Union Health Minister is reviewing the status regularly. He has assured Ms Shailaja of all support from the Centre, an official statement here said.
The teams of experts from the Health Ministry and ICMR are already stationed in Kerala and are supporting the state in investigations and management of the NVD.
The condition of one positive case is stable. There have been no new cases. The earlier seven suspected cases have been confirmed to be negative, it was informed.
A total of 316 contacts are being followed up on daily basis and six symptomatic contacts have been admitted in quarantine facility at Medical College and all six samples were found to be negative for Nipah virus as per reports of NIV Pune, while three contacts are now afebrile, it was informed. Sample from one symptomatic contact is being sent to NIV Lab, an official statement here said.
Strategic Health Operation Centre (SHOC) at NCDC has been activated from June 4 and is coordinating activities for Nipah containment. Till date 40 calls have been attended at SHOC- NCDC regarding Nipah information.
