Odisha Director General of Police R P Sharma today directed the police officers to ensure peaceful, free and fair election in the state.
Presiding over a meeting of police officers in western range in Sambalpur Sharma asked the police officials to remain alert and ensure that there was no law and order problem during the election.
He also directed them to complete all pre-election preparations including execution of the non bailable warrants and to keep a close watch on anti-social elements.
Dr Sharma said “We will be very watchful in curbing illegal cash flow, illegal arms and ammunitions, and illegal liquor.” “Any violation in the model code of conduct (MCC) will be taken up strictly as per the law and People’s Representation Act.”
In Maoist infested areas, extra police force and central armed police force will be deployed sufficiently to ensure that polling completed without any hurdle.
“Area domination will be done by police so that no unwanted elements will get any scope for disturbing the poll process,” he assured.
Talking about the pre poll activities, the DGP said that enforcement is being deployed in whole of the state and northern range in particular which will be intensified further.
Replying to the allegations of the opposition that Police is acting as an agent of the ruling party he said “Police is always neutral and we are maintaining it.”
The SPs of Sambalpur,Jharsuguda, Balangir, Sonepur and Jharsuguda and some senior Police officers were present at the meeting. (UNI)
