Outlet opens to sell prisoners’ products

Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission (TRLM) today opened a food outlet in the city to sell bakery items which has been produced by the inmates of Tripura Central Correctional Home under Directorate of Prisons.

TRLM officials said that the outlet will be managed by one member each of two Self Help Groups (SHGs) Radhamadhab Dal and Golap Mahila Dal of Udaipur in South Tripura. The bakery items would be sold at no profit-no loss model. A village level organization of TRLM Agragami Gramin Samity will manage the unit.

“TRLM has been trying to promote self-employment avenues mainly for women. In last four years nearly 90,000 rural women have joined in the mission and doing self-reliant activities successfully over the years. The outlet is an attempt to promote our work and cater the market demands,” officials said here.

The members of both the teams were trained at a star category hotel for a week to gain confidence about the business and learn the basic management issues of hospitality sector. They are ready to get started with their new venture, the officials added.
