Bangladesh Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury has said that parliamentary diplomacy is playing a vital role in enhancing cooperation among countries across the globe.
It is possible to resolve problems and tackle challenges prevailing in different countries through parliamentary diplomacy and negotiations the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) and Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States (PUIC) are working together in this regard, Dr Shirin said on Tuesday.
She stated this while presenting a key note paper in a programme titled ‘Honing Legislative Innovation: Parliamentary Diplomacy for the Future’ of the three-day Dhaka Global Dialogue-2019 at a hotel here.
Bangladesh Institute of International and Strategic Studies (BIISS) and Observer Research Foundation, India are jointly organising the programme. Over 150 delegates from over 50 countries are taking part in the dialogue.
State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shahriar Alam, Nahim Razzak, MP, Shamim Haider Patwari, MP, former secretary NI Khan and Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Riva Ganguly Das were present as special guests, among others, on the occasion.
