New Delhi-(UNI)Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Thailand on a three-day visit from November 2 to participate at the 16th ASEAN-India summit and other important meetings including the crucial Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) deliberations. Prime Minister will also attend the 14th East Asia Summit. Secretary East in the Ministry of External Affairs, Vijay Thakur Singh, said here on Thursday that the ASEAN-related meets at Bangkok are important part of Indian diplomacy.
However, with regard RCEP meet, she said: “There are obviously some critical issues still outstanding and efforts are being made to try and resolve them to provide a fair and transparent trading environment”. “These issues are extremely important for our economy and livelihood of our people,” the Secretary said.Prime Minister will address the Indian community on November 2 at the National Indoor Stadium in Bangkok, she said.
Ms Singh said Prime Minister will also release the commemorative coin marking the 550th birth anniversary of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji and Thai translation of Tirukkural, a Tamil classic. Mr Modi will participate in the India-ASEAN summit on November 3. The RCEP bloc comprises of ASEAN members – Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Singapore, Thailand, the Philippines, Laos and Vietnam and six other FTA partners – China, Japan, South Korea, Australia and New Zealand besides India.
Prime Minister Modi and other leaders are expected to review the state of RCEP negotiations during the summit meet. Meanwhile, reports said a meeting of trade ministers of sixteen RCEP countries will meet on Friday in Bangkok to resolve ‘differences’ on the proposed free-trade pact.
