Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Tuesday held roadshows in Bijnor and Saharanpur, after the party president Rahul Gandhi had to hold joint rallies but were cancelled following inclement weather on Monday.
Priyanka, first held a road show in Bijnor along with the Congress candidate and BSP MLC Nasiuddin Siddique. Priyanka, with folded hands sought support for the party candidates and waved at the youths during the roadshow.
However, amidst the roadshow, clashes erupted between BJP and Congress after some BJP supporters raised ‘ Modi- Modi’ slogans and waved party flags at the Congress workers who were shouting ‘ Chowkidar Chor hai’ slogans. But timely intervention of the police saved the situation from going out of control.
Police also forced some shops to close down which were reported to be the supporters of the BJP.
The road show passed off peacefully in Bijnor, with Congress supporters showering flower petals on their leaders, atop a bus.
Later, Priyanka went to Saharanpur, where she joined the Congress candidate Imran Masood for an another road show.
The Congress general secretary commenced her road show from Gol Kothi and will go up to Qutub Sher, covering around 2 kilometers.
The Congress leader is also expected to show up at the Kairana Lok Sabha seat by attending a welcome programme before she departs for New Delhi.
On Monday, Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka and Jyotriditya Scindia were slated to hold joint rallies in Saharanpur, Bijnor and Kairana, but it was cancelled due to bad weather.
