Priyanka on Sonbhadra killings: Action taken after Congress workers raised voice

Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi on Sunday said the Uttar Pradesh government acted only when thousands of Congress party workers raised their voice against the killing of ten people over a land dispute in Umbha village in Uttar Pradesh’s Sonbhadra district.

‘..The announcements that have been made today, should be fulfilled soon. The victims should get ownership right of the land and the most important point, villagers should get full security,’ Ms Vadra tweeted.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday met the family members of the those who were gunned down over a land dispute in Umbha village in Sonbhadra district.

Adityanath flew to Sonbhadra from Lucknow and went by road to Umbha village to meet the families.

On Saturday,  Gandhi had criticised the ruling BJP for not meeting the families of the victims and accused the Adityanath government of trying to silence them.

Ten people from the Gond community were killed when the village headman and his men allegedly opened fire at them over a land dispute on July 17. Over 20 people sustained injuries in the incident.

In consideration of the prevailing situation, the proposed visit of Dr Nand Kumar Sai, Chairperson, National Commission for Scheduled Tribes (NCST) along with a team of Commission, has also been deferred.
