Dealing a huge blow to Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), IMG Reliance, the official production company of Pakistan Super league (PSL) has withdrawn its contract to produce live coverage of the ongoing PSL tournament in the wake of the Pulwama terror attack.
The decision was taken on Sunday following the massive backlash over the terror attacks in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Thursday that claimed lives of 44 Central Reserve Police Force personnel and left several others.
IMG Reliance, in a mail sent to the officials of the PSL and the Pakistan Cricket Board, mentioned that the company will be stopping the broadcast production services of the league with immediate effect while condemning the barbaric attack on the CRPF soldiers.
Later, PCB’s Managing Director Wasim Khan in response issued a statement,“We have been informed by IMG Reliance that they will be unable to partner with us for the remaining HBL PSL 2019 and PCB has reserved all its rights. The PCB always had a contingency plan in place, and we are confident we will be in a position to announce the new partner on Monday after the completion of the formalities.”
Currently, the fourth edition of the PSL is underway in Dubai. The opening match of the tournament was played on Thursday.
Earlier, DSport, the official broadcaster of the PSL in India also suspended the telecast of the tournament with immediate effect in protest to the Pulwama terror attack.
