Outgoing Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday reached Amethi, where he will discuss with party workers the reasons of the grand old party’s defeat in its pocket borough.
Before his arrival at Amethi, Gandhi was accorded a warm welcome at the Lucknow airport on his arrival from New Delhi this morning at around 1000 hrs. However, this time, the leader was welcomed by small crowd at the airport and several senior leaders too were missing.
Former Rajya Sabha member Pramod Tiwari, former legislator Akhilesh Pratap Singh along with senior party leaders like Vinod Mishra, Virendra Madan, Sarbajit Singh Makkar were present to welcome the leader.
Around 50 Congress Seva Dal workers also assembled outside the gate where they raised slogans like ‘ Rahul Gandhi tum sangarsh Karo hum tumhare sath hai. (Rahul you make your efforts, we are with you).”
Later, Gandhi left for Amethi in an SUV under the SPG security cover.
In Amethi, Gandhi will hold a meeting with the party workers at an educational and technical institute in Gauriganj area between 1200 to 1500 hours where district to block level Congress leaders have been invited. He is expected to return to New Delhi this evening.
This is the first visit of Gandhi to Amethi after he lost the elections to Union minister Smriti Irani though he got elected from the second seat Wayanad from Kerala.
Meanwhile, on his first visit to Amethi, after his debacle against the BJP, Mr Gandhi, has to face a poster war.
Several posters were pasted near the Sanjay Gandhi hospital in Mushiganj area where the Gandhi scion has been questioned as to why the patient who comes to that medical facility die.
“Nyay do, Nyay do, Mera Pariwar to nyay do, doshiyo ko saza,(Give justice. justice to my family and punishment to guilty), Is Hospital me Jindagi bachai nahi, gavai jati hai, (life is not saved in this hospital, it is lost)” were the slogans written on the posters.
The Gandhi scion is the trustee of this Sanjay Gandhi hospital.
