In the run up to the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) has plans to invite AICC president Rahul Gandhi to address a public meeting at Haveri in the first week of March.
According to KPCC sources, the party president will be invited to address a mega rally in Karnataka after completing its ‘Parivarthana Yathra’ in Haveri on March 9 and hold district level party rallies in all the 30 districts in the state.
The KPCC has chalked out the Parivarthana Yathra in parallel to the opposition BJP’s ‘Modi Vijaya Sankalpa Yathra’ which is being organised by the Saffran party in the state.
Speaking to UNI, the KPCC General Secretary, Prabhu Patil informed that the AICC president Rahul Gandhi, will address a huge public rally, culminating the ‘Parivarthana Yathra’. “The place of the proposed mega rally has not been finalised, but it is likely to be in Haveri,” he added.
Informing that the ‘Parivarthana Yathra’, which is being launched in Raichur town today, will be addressed by the several Congress leaders from the state, including former Chief minister Siddaramaiah, AICC General secretary and Karnataka Incharge K C Venugopal, KPCC president Dinesh Gundu Rao and others.
Meanwhile, the senior Congress leaders, including Siddarmaiah, Dinesh Gundu Rao, D K Shivakumar, H K Patil and others held a party’s crucial meeting till midnight, on Friday and took stock of the party’s strength in each of the 28 Lok Sabha constituencies.
The meeting was held in the background of seat sharing talk with the Janata Dal (S) leaders, to fight the coming Lok Sabha elections jointly.
Party sources said that the senior leaders have strongly felt not to leave more than five or six LS seats to the coalition partner JD(S), as it may harm the party’s prospects in other parts of the state.
It may be recalled that the State Congress leaders have already announced to release the list of party candidates in the second week of March.
The JD(S)-Congress combine is eyeing to fight the coming elections jointly and garner maximum number of seats in the coming general election.
