Reliance Foundation extends support in FANI cyclone affected areas in Odisha

Extending a helping hand in the districts affected by cyclone Fani, Reliance Foundation has initiated several activities including post-disaster rehabilitation support, post-cyclone crop care, livestock care and management advisories, technical support, process facilitation and documentation support to affected people for availing government benefits, working in close coordination with various Government agencies and Departments.

Based on ground conditions in some of the worst affected areas, Reliance Foundation is also in the process of providing post-disaster rehabilitation support in the form of dry ration kit, utility and sanitary kit to 12,300 affected families in Puri District, Odisha. As part of supporting in post-cyclone rescue efforts at various places, Reliance Foundation facilitated Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF) in cleaning of Panchubisa village road connecting to Panchubisa Cyclone Centre and cleaning of Bajipur village road connecting to Panapana – Balasore State highway, in Balasore District.

 Besides, Reliance Foundation is widely disseminating advisory to individuals in the affected areas on post-cyclone crop-care and management in Paddy, Groundnut, Sun flower, Vegetables etc. with technical support of district agriculture officials through various technology platforms including mobile audio and text messages, images, along with messages on platforms like WhatsApp, Jio Chat etc. Reliance Foundation is also disseminating advisory on Livestock care and Management during and post cyclone, cleaning of debris, importance of Vaccination after cyclone, Govt. Compensation application process in case of Death of livestock etc. through mobile platforms in the form of audio and text messages with content support of district Animal Resources Development Department.

Reliance Foundation toll free helpline number 1800 419 8800 was extended to work 24hours and to address all cyclone-related queries and provide assistance.

 Reliance Foundation has been involved with the state disaster management authorities since 27 April 2019 for carrying out preventive communications and support for the at-risk communities in the coastal areas and Jio has provided its digital services to disseminate critical information far and wide.

Cyclone Alerts: Reliance Foundation has been communicating regular cyclone alerts and updates to nearly six Lakh fisherfolk/farmers in the cyclone path districts of Tamilnadu, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, West Bengal and Odisha since April 27, 2019. The broadcast dissemination modes include Mobile based audio advisories (outbound calls), WhatsApp, JioChat Channel, local cable TV scroll and print media.

As part of On-the-ground work, along with District Administration, RF was engaged in evacuating people from low lying areas to temporary camps in the states of Odisha and Andhra Pradesh. On May 2, in Puri, Odisha, along with Department of Fisheries – an awareness drive was carried about evacuation (move from low lying areas to temporary camps) for 20,000 marine fishing families in 31 hamlets at Penthakata in Puri District. On the same day in Andhra Pradesh, RF along with Marine Police assisted 350 families living in coastal villages namely, Chinagangalapeta, Pedagangalapeta and Narasimhapeta of Srikakulam district to move to temporary camps.
