Noted journalist and Resident Editor of Odisha edition of the English daily Business Standard Dillip Satpathy died here last night following a massive cardiac arrest.
He was 56 .
Satpathy was diagnosed with blood cancer in 1997 and was declared cancer free. But the dreaded disease relapsed only three years back and he was undergoing treatment.
He started his career as a reporter in a local English daily Sun Times but later joined the Business Standard and was elevated to the rank of Resident Editor of the Bhubaneswar edition.
The media fraternity, political leaders and bureaucrats here were shocked at the untimely demise of Satpathy and visited his house here to pay their last respect to the departed soul.
Satpathy was a very familiar face in the local television channels in Odisha on debate concerning economy and political affairs of the state as well as the country.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Dharmendra Pradhan, Odisha Minister for Information and Public relations Raghunandan Das, Science and Technology Minister Ashok Panda expressed their profound grief at the demise of Satpathy, a bachelor.
In his condolence message Patnaik said he was deeply shocked to learn about the death of eminent journalist and financial expert Dillip Satpathy. He prayed for the salvation of the departed soul and expressed his sympathies to the bereaved family members.
In a condolence message the I &PR Minister said Satpathy was a fearless and impartial journalist. His death is a big loss to the world of media.
In a tweet , Petroleum minister Dharmendra Pradhan said ‘’ shocked and saddened by the passing away of noted journalist from Odisha. Shri Dillip Satpathy, a Journalist par excellence and a fine human being, Dillip bhai’s sudden demise is a huge loss to the field of journalism in Odisha.’’.
