Russia-Qatar trade can increase up to $500Mln by 2020 - Russian envoy to Qatar

Russia and Qatar have the opportunity to increase trade up to six times, to $500 million, by 2020, Russia’s ambassador to Qatar, Nurmakhmad Kholov, said.
“Trade between [Russia and Qatar] has grown slowly, but surely. In 2018, trade grew 7.4 percent and constituted $78.7 million. However, the two countries have serious potential to grow bilateral trade up to 500 million dollars by 2020.” Kholov said at a reception on the occasion of Russia Day.
Kholov added that Doha and Moscow are united by productive cooperation in the fields of energy, construction, tourism, agriculture, industry, culture, sport and education.
The ambassador also added that Qatar was one of the biggest Middle Eastern investors in Russia’s economy.
Qatari Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani is expected to visit Russia this fall. In March 2019, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that President Vladimir Putin had accepted the invitation to visit Qatar, noting that the protocol services of the heads of state would determine the date.
