Former Kolkata police commissioner Rajeev Kumar on Monday moved the Supreme Court seeking extension of seven-day period granted to seek legal recourse against his possible arrest by the CBI in connection with the Saradha chit fund scam.
Appearing before the vacation bench, headed by Justice Indira Banerjee, Kumar’s lawyer cited the strike of lawyers in West Bengal as reason for seeking extension.
Last week, the apex court had vacated the interim protection from arrest to Kumar but had granted him seven days to file anticipatory bail.
The judgement pronounced by Justice Sanjiv Khanna for a three-judge Bench led by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi, had asked the CBI to act in accordance with the law.
The CBI, which is the probe agency in the case, had earlier alleged that Kumar is not co-operating with it in the case. (UNI)
