The Supreme Court on Monday refused to quash charges of rape, sexual harassment and wrongful restraint against veteran journalist Tarun Tejpal in the 2013 sexual assault case.
The Apex Court also lifted the stay of the trial against him in the case.
A bench of the Apex Court, headed by Justice Arun Mishra, passed the order after hearing the petition filed by Tejpal seeking quashing of the charges levelled against him in the trial court in Goa in the sexual assault case registered against him.
“We are not inclined to quash the charges levelled against the petitioner accused (Tarun Tejpal) in the present case. We also lift the stay of trial going on in the concerned court in the state,” the Bench of the Apex Court said in its order.
According to the prosecution, Tejpal is charged with rape, sexual harassment & wrongful restraint, for his alleged involvement in the 2013 sexual assault case registered against him by his former colleague.
Tejpal had moved the Apex Court challenging the Goa trial court order which had framed the charges against him in the sexual assault case. (UNI)
