The nomination papers of 46 candidates out of total 344 candidates who have filed their candidature for five Lok Sabha and 35 Assembly seats going to polls on April 18 in the second phase of election has been rejected during scrutiny today.
Chief Electoral Office (CEO)sources here said the nomination of 38 out of 299 candidates who had filed nominations for 35 assembly seats and nomination of 8 candidates out of total 45 candidates for five Lok Sabha seats have been rejected.
After scrutiny nomination of 37 candidates for 5 Lok Sabha and 261 for 35 Assembly seats remained in fray.
BJP candidate for Hinjli Assembly seat Pitambar Acharya today demanded the rejection of nomination paper of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik for Hinjili seat but his request was rejected by the Returning Offcer who declared the nomination paper of Chief Minister is valid.
The Chief Minister is seeking re-election for the fifth consecutive times in a row from the Hinjili Assembly seat.This time, Mr.Patnaik, besides Hinjili, is also contesting from Bijepur Assembly seat in Western Odisha.
Mr.Acharya said Mr Patnaik has not mentioned in his nomination paper about the interrogation by the CBI relating allotment of coal block while he was in charge of coal ministry.
He further said the Chief Minister had also not signed in one place but the Returning officer did not reject his nomination paper.
The Returning officer while rejecting Mr.Acharya ‘s demand said there was nothing wrong in the Nomination paper of the Chief minister and Mr Acharya, if wanted could move court.
Official sources here said so far 5255 NBW have been executed and 27,818 detained under 107/116 of the IPC for the smooth and peaceful conduct of the election.
As many as 3830 licensed guns were deposited with various district administration and 110 unlicensed arms and weapons were seized.
Raids were conducted at different places and around 239 kg of explosives, Rs 21.75 lakh in cash and liquor worth around Rs 1.64 crore were seized from different places. (UNI)
