The benchmark index of Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) on Tuesday fell by 31 points at 38,669.37 in opening trade as selling pressure was seen in material, Industrial, IT, Telecom, bankex and capital goods stocks.
The Nifty of National Stock Exchange (NSE) too eased by 16.50 points to 11,588.
The Sensex registered intra-day high and low at 38,850.66 and 38,620.09 points respectively.
The Nifty recorded intra-day high and low at 11,638.25 and 11,574.15 points respectively.
Though it opened higher by 30 points to 38,730.93, it immediately slid.
The losers were Asian Paints by 3.30 pc to Rs 1447, Bharti Airtel by 3.05 pc to Rs 343.50, Tata Steel by 1.28 pc to Rs 542 and Kotak Bank by 1.20 pc to Rs 1326.30.
The gainers were HCL Technology by 1.90 pc to Rs 1119.70, Yes Bank by 1.58 pc to Rs 264.10, Bajaj Auto by 1.30 pc to Rs 2889.50 and ITC by 1.20 pc to Rs 296.05.
