Noted film actor and BJP leader Shatrugan Sinha on Saturday joined the Congress party.

He joined the party in the presence of AICC media in-charge Randeep Surjewala, AICC General Secretary K C Venugopal and AICC in-charge for Bihar Shakti Singh Gohil.

He joined Congress after he was denied a Lok Sabha ticket from Patna Sahib by the BJP. Mr Sinha was sitting MP from the seat.

Welcoming him to the party Mr Surjewala said, his entry would strengthen the party.

“We appreciate Mr Sinha’s unwavering honesty in the face of opposition and his ability to speak his mind without fear. We welcome him into the party” Mr Surjewala said.

Speaking on the occasion, AICC general secretary KC Venugopal said, “t is the happiest moment for the entire Congress. Shatrugan Sinha is one of the best parliamentarians. Earlier, he was in the wrong party, but now he is in the right party.’’

Speaking on the occasion, Shatrughan Sinha said he was leaving BJP with a heavy heart as it had become a ‘one man show and two-man army’.

‘’It is with a heavy heart that I am leaving the BJP. I have seen BJP turning from democracy to dictatorship. It has become a ‘one man show and a two-man army’. Voice of people like Mr Yashwant Sinha, Murli Manohar Joshi and myself is not being heard,’’ Sinha said.

He said when he spoke against Demonetisation, he was called a rebel.
‘’I have always spoken for the wellbeing of our youth and farmers. When I opposed Demonetisation, I was called a rebel. If speaking the truth is rebellion, then yes, I’m a rebel,’’ he said.

Calling Demonetisation as the world’s biggest scam, he said,’’the BJP did not care about anyone and treated their opponents as enemies.’’

Lashing out at the BJP for denying him a Lok Sabha ticket from Patna Sahib, Sinha said, “my only fault was I stuck to my principles and the truth.’’

Earlier on Saturday, Shatrughan Sinha met Congress president Rahul Gandhi who welcomed him to the party. Sinha is likely to be fielded by the Congress from the Patna Sahib seat. (UNI)
