Sonia elected as leader of CPP

Sonia Gandhi on Saturday was elected the leader of the Congress Parliamentary Party (CPP).

At a meeting of the CPP comprising members of both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, Ms Gandhi endorsed her election as a leader of the party after her name was proposed by former prime minister Manmohan Singh.

Talking about its deliberation in the meeting held in Central Hall of Parliament, AICC Media In charge Randeep Surjewala confirmed the news.

Speaking at the meeting, Ms Sonia Gandhi thanked the 12.13 crore voters for proposing faith in the INC party.

Thanking the voters and his party workers, Congress president Rahul Gandhi said, “Every Congress member must remember that each one of you is fighting for the constitution, for every person in India, irrespective of the colour of their skin and belief.”

The party also discussed its strategy for the upcoming Parliamentary session, which are scheduled to be held from June 17.
