Stage set for Rahul Gandhi’s rally in Tripura

The stage is all set to welcome AICC president Rahul Gandhi at the Ttribal Autonomous District Council (ADC) headquarters at Khumlung today to kick off Lok Sabha poll campaign for Congress in Tripura.

Gandhi is scheduled to arrive here at MBB airport by a special aircraft from Imphal after lunch and drive down to the rally ground – around 25 kms from airport along with party state in-charge and former chief minister of Goa Luizinho Faleiro.

Tripura Pradesh Congress President royal scion Pradyot Kishore Debbarman along with top leaders of the party will greet him at airport while hundreds of volunteers from Youth Congress, Sevadal and Mahila Congress will welcome him outside the airport and at the rally ground.

Tight security blanket, including modern security apparatus, have been put in and around the rally ground, airport and the entire road stretches where Rahul Gandhi’s convoy will move. The security has been enhanced across the city and Congress Bhawan area due to the visit of high profile leaders.

State Congress Chief Debbarman said that the party is expecting a large gathering from different parts of the state and thousands of people from North and South Tripura have already availed the train service to reach the rally ground. Apart from that, vehicles were managed for the party supporters to attend Rahul Gandhi’s rally and arrangement has been made for the return of the workers after the rally.

“We shall announce the names of Congress nominees for two seats of Tripura soon after Rahulji’s rally; if he does not announce the names during his speech. The rally is significant because Rahul Gandhi’s visit will pave the way for many top leaders of BJP and CPI (M) to join the Congress because communist is non-entity in Tripura today while performance of BJP government in one year made their leaders frustrated,” Debbarman stated today.

He, however, pointed out that there is no fundamental difference between communist rule and BJP’s rule. None of these parties have democracy inside and added, “The government functions at the whims and wills of a person and leaders were not treated with dignity. I must say the present government here is bureaucratic and to protect corrupts and criminals.”

Debbarman also said that BJP’s vice-president Subal Bhowmik who was second in command had to leave the party because of autocratic attitude of leaders. The BJP doesn’t give honour to the leaders and workers. The one year rule of BJP proved there is no power no dignity or voice of ministers and MLAs. The door of congress is now opened for the politicians to come here and do politics with dignity, Debbarman added. (UNI)
