Film actor turned politician Sumalatha Ambareesh files her nomination for Mandya LS seat

Actor turned politician

Not deterred by denial of ticket by Congress, film actor turned politician Sumalatha Ambareesh, wife of former Karnataka Minister and senior Congress leader M H Ambareesh, filed her nomination for Mandya Lok Sabha seat as independent candidate on Wednesday.

Congress denied her ticket since under the agreement with Coalition partner the seat was left to Janata Dal (Secular). It may not be a cake walk for Sumalatha as she has to face challenge by another film actor and Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy’s son Nikhil Kumaraswamy who may file his nomination on March 25 to test his political fortune on JD(S) ticket.

As a jolt to the prospects of coalition partners, the party workers of Congress and JD(S) came in support of Sumalatha. A large number of Congress workers, holding the party flag, accompanied her with her son Abhishek and noted film acteres Doddanna, Yash, among others, in a massive road show held prior to submission of the Nomination after offering prayer at Sri Chamundesdhwari temple, atop of Chamundi hills in Mysuru.
