Actor-turned-politician and BJP nominee from Gurdaspur Lok Sabha constituency in Punjab Sunny Deol met Prime Minister Narendra Modi here on Sunday.
In a Tweet, the Prime Minister said, “What struck me about @iamsunnydeol is his humility and deep passion for a better India. Happy to have met him today. We are all rooting for his victory in Gurdaspur! We both agree- Hindustan Zindabad that, hai aur rahega.”
The actor joined the BJP on April 23 and was nominated as the party’s candidate from Gurdaspur. He has been fielded against Punjab Congress President Sunil Jakhar, Aam Aadmi Party’s Peter Masih and Punjab Democratic Alliance’s Lal Chand.
Earlier in the day, Mr Modi met new mayors of south, north and east Delhi municipal corporations.
“Had a great interaction with Sunita Kangra, Avtar Singh and Anju Kamalkant. They will be serving as Mayors of South Delhi, North Delhi and East Delhi Municipal Corporations respectively. My best wishes to them as they embark on their efforts to transform Delhi,” the prime minister said in a tweet.
Deol is best known for the 1997 blockbuster Border, a war movie based on the battle of Longewala during the Indo-Pak war of 1971.
He acted as an army Major commanding a small infantry unit of 120 men who repulse the charge of Pakistani armour against heavy odds. His father Dharmendra represented the Bikaner Lok Sabha seat from 2004 t o 2009.
