Two girls drowned in a water-filled ditch in Mirzabagh ward number 3 of Belwa Panchayat under Town police station area in Araria district late last evening.
Police said here that Anas Nigar (7), daughter of Mohamed Abraz Alam and Masooda Parveen (9), daughter of Mohamed Rashid, natives of Chandradei village met their watery grave in the ditch when they entered into it to take bath. Sources said the villagers rescued another girl from drowning even as she was undergoing treatment at a local government hospital.
Police said, due to breakdown of the pier during flood, a 25-feet deep ditch was formed at the spot, close to the village. Both the girls were visiting their aunt’s place to attend some ceremony.
