Trinamool Congress leader Nirmal Kundu, a ward president at Nimta in North 24 Parganas, was shot dead by three motor-cycle borne miscreants on Tuesday evening, in which a BJP suspected to have hand in the crime was detained, whose house was also set on fire, as clashes of post result of Lok Sabha election continued to rock West Bengal.
Thirty-six-year-old Kundu was shot dead by the three motor-cycle-borne youths, who had had covered their faces and had helmet on, while riding a motor cycle with a pillion at Nimta under North Dum Dum police station. He died immediately after being taken to a nursing home at Belghoria. His brain was pierced by two bullets.
Police early today picked up BJP local leader Suman Kundu, suspecting his hand in the crime, from his home at Thakurtala.
Dum Dum Lok Sabha MP and TMC leader Saugata Roy blamed the BJP for the murder. BJP state president Dilip Ghosh while denying this, said the TMC would be doomed as factional feud increased in the ruling party after set back in Lok Sabha poll where it reduced to 22 from 34.
