ITBP constable commits suicide by shooting self in Srinagar

Tripura Assembly expressed serious concern over the exponential growth of suicide incidences in the state over past a year while opposition demanded a case-specific enquiry into each of the incidents. Replying to a query of CPI (M) MLA Ratan Bhowmik, Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb informed the house that as many as 982 persons had committed suicide between March 2018 and May 2019 including 307 women but the reason of suicide cases was not known. However, he stated that out of the total suicide altogether18 cases were related to dowry-related disputes. While MLA Bhowmik raised clarification over two specific cases of suicide, Deb mentioned that he will be taking the details and informed the MLA later. The opposition members, however, alleged that most of the murder cases were registered as suicide because the government did not want to record them as law and order related incident. Since BJP-IPFT government came in power atrocities on opposition supporters were increased in manifolds and general law and order situation has also deteriorated, Bhowmik told media later. He further pointed out that in last 500 days of BJP-IPFT government has recorded as many as 1872 incidences of unnatural death, altogether 809 cases of crime on women, 222 abductions, 115 cases of murder, 31 dowry-related death, 23 cases of bride killings and 346 death due to road accident, which don’t reflect a good situation in the state.
