Ukraine win first ever DNA gold at European Games

Ukrainian track and field athletes have won gold medal in the newly introduced Dynamic New Athletics (DNA) event at the 2019 European Games at the Dinamo Stadium here on Friday.

DNA is a mixed-gender team event that features six track events and three field disciplines. The champions are decided in the last event ‘The Hunt’, a mixed medley relay with the teams setting off at staggered intervals depending on points collected in the previous eight events.

Ukraine and Belarus tied at 74 points before the final decider and it was the Ukrainian athletes that triumphed in the decider, finishing in four minutes and 27.14 seconds.

Belarus had to settle for a silver 0.67 seconds behind, and Germany bagged gold in 4:34.77.

The 2019 European Games is the second edition of the tournament which is ongoing in Minsk, Belarus from June 21-30. It serves as the qualifying event for Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
