Unnao rape survivor accident: Apex court takes cognizance of threat letter

Man gets death for raping, killing six-year-old girl

Observing that it will attempt to do something constructive in this destructive atmosphere, a Supreme Court bench on Wednesday took cognizance of a letter written by the Unnao victim’s family, stating that the rape survivor had allegedly been threatened by accused Bharatiya Janata Party MLA, Kuldip Singh Sengar and his henchmen.

Central Bureau of Investigation on Tuesday took over the probe into Sunday’s truck-car collision of the rape survivor, which left her critically injured and killed her two aunts near Rae Bareli, amid a mounting outcry against the MLA. The letter issue rocked Parliament for the second consecutive day.

Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi said he will also tomorrow go into why the letter, received by the apex court registry on July 17, was not placed before him. “We will hear the matter tomorrow,” the bench ruled. It is also expected to go through a report from the apex court registry on the delay in placing this letter before the Chief Justice of India on administrative or judicial side.

The CJI observed that the apex court will try to do something constructive in this destructive atmosphere. News, he noted, was flashed in the media as if nothing was done on the letter received on July 17 in the Supreme Court registry .
