Unnao rape survivor's lawyer airlifted to AIIMS in Delhi

The Unnao rape survivor’s lawyer was airlifted to AIIMS, New Delhi on Tuesday morning, hours after the victim was brought to the hospital. The lawyer, who was injured along with the rape survivor, was taken to the Lucknow airport by an ambulance, from King George Medical University Hospital. He is being shifted to AIIMS (All India Institute of Medical Sciences) Delhi by an air ambulance, officials of the KGMU here said. The survivor, who suffered critical injuries in a car-truck collision on July 28, was airlifted to New Delhi on Monday evening following Supreme Court’s directives in this regard. Two of her aunts were killed in the accident.

Lucknow district authorities made special arrangements all through the nearly 15-km-long route passing through some busy areas of the state capital to allow the unhindered movement of the vehicle carrying the rape survivor from the hospital. Till Monday afternoon, the doctors attending on the victim at the Trauma Centre had said that she was ‘critical and stable’. The Central Bureau of Investigation, which has taken over the investigation into the collision between the car and the truck with blackened registration plate, booked 10 people for murder, including Kuldeep Singh Sengar.

Sengar was expelled by the Bharatiya Janata Party following a massive uproar after the accident. He is already in jail on charges of raping the Unnao woman when she was a minor in 2017. (UNI)
