Bollywood actor Urmila Matondkar may join the Congress party and may be a congress nominee for Lok Sabha candidate from Mumbai, sources said.
She is considered to be in the reckoning for a Congress nomination from Mumbai North Lok Sabha constituency.
Outgoing Mumbai Congress president Sanjay Nirupam, accompanied by Milind Deora, the new city party chief, confirmed that talks are on with the actor.
Mr Nirupam said we have requested her to contest the Lok Sabha polls from North Mumbai and hopes that she will agree.
If she wins, she will be an asset for the Congress, he said.
Her name is at ‘an advanced stage of consideration by the party high command and the final decision could be announced shortly.
If nominated, Matondkar’s formidable rival would be Bharatiya Janata Party incumbent MP Gopal Shetty in the constituency that was once regarded a BJP bastion. (UNI)
