NTPC Bongaigaon, under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, has undertaken a significant project in Kharsom, Ukhrul, one of the remotest districts of Manipur, to strengthen education infrastructure and provide quality learning opportunities to students in the region. In partnership with Purva Seema Vikas Pratishthan (PSVP), the initiative focuses on the extension of a school building, construction of teachers’ quarters, and renovation of a boys’ hostel. Given the challenging terrain and limited educational facilities in Ukhrul, this project is set to transform the learning environment for students who otherwise face difficulties in accessing formal education.
With a financial commitment of ₹3.4 crore, the project aims to bridge the educational gap in this remote area by improving school infrastructure and ensuring proper residential facilities for both students and teachers. The expansion of classrooms will accommodate more students, reducing the dropout rate, while the construction of teachers’ quarters will help attract and retain quality educators, a major challenge in the region. Additionally, the renovation of the boys’ hostel, along with new kitchen and sanitation facilities, will ensure a safe and comfortable living space for students coming from far-flung villages.
The project is poised to bring long-term socio-educational benefits to the region. Improved access to quality education will enable students from disadvantaged backgrounds to pursue learning without the burden of traveling long distances. The upgraded facilities will foster a better academic atmosphere, ensuring that children in Ukhrul receive education on par with other developed regions. Moreover, the presence of dedicated teachers and well-maintained hostel accommodations will contribute to a holistic learning experience, encouraging more families to send their children to school.
By addressing the infrastructure gaps in one of India’s most remote districts, NTPC’s initiative is not just about building classrooms and hostels; it is about empowering an entire community through education. This project depicts NTPC’s commitment to inclusive development, ensuring that no child is left behind due to geographical or economic constraints. Through this initiative, NTPC continues to uphold its vision of nation-building by promoting education and sustainable community development in India’s farthest regions.
