Vedanta Red Mud Pond: Bundel villagers of Lanjigarh of Odisha have closed the main gate of Vedanta Limited since early morning today. The Red Mud Pond of Vedanta collapsed on 14th of this month. Thus poisonous caustic water from the Vedanta entered the houses of the villages and damaged more.
Hundreds of acres of paddy crops in the village have been destroyed due to inundation of toxic caustic water. Even the broilers, goats and sheeps of the village were washed away by the poisonous water. The villagers were very upset because they could not eat for two days due to collapsed of the pond.
Even after the people of the village called the Lanjigarh BDO, Tehsildar and Police, till date no government official or Vedanta Company employees have not set foot in the village to understood their problems. Other hand the workers of Vedanta are threatening people and showing red eyes, said a villager.
Even today, when it rains, the toxic water released by the company comes out in the village. People are getting sick after coming in contact with such poisonic water. The people of Bundel village were sitting in front of the Vedanta main gate on this morning to protest against Vedanta.
On behalf of the Lanjigarh police, SI Lingaraj Sethi reached the spot and the Vedanta authorities also counseled the people. After a long discussion, the villagers called off the strike after the company authorities promised not to release poisoning water to the village.
However, the people of the village have warned that if the company authorities to fail their promise, they will conduct a terrible movement very soon. In this connection our reporter try to contact the authorities of Vedanta but failed to receive any clarification.
