BHUBANESWAR: “An ounce of action is worth a ton of theory” – Ralph Waldo Emerson’s often quoted statement aptly applies to popular and retired IAS officer R Balakrishnan’s decision to adopt a school for its holistic development.
Balakrishnan, the former Development Commissioner of the State, is currently the Chief Advisor to Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.
The Chief Minister has launched the innovative Mo School Aviyan and has given a clarion call to the alma mater and concerned citizens from different walks of life to adopt a school of their choice and contribute towards its overall development under the Aviyan.
Responding to the call, Balakrishnan has decided to adopt Dr. Sadananda Tripathy Vidyapeeth at Ghumusar Nuagaon of Belaguntha Block in Ganjam district.
Incidentally, Ghumusar Nuagaon happens to be the ancestral home of former Chief Minister Biju Patnaik, father of Chief minister Naveen Patnaik.
The high school with a strength of 87 students has eight teachers and three class rooms.
Balakrishnan called up the school headmaster to inform about his interest to adopt the school causing immense excitement among the locals including the students and the teachers.
The school had won the ‘Prakruti Mitra’ Award from Government of Odisha earlier for its achievement in the field of environment awareness and conservation initiatives.
