Odisha Science Award: State Government is implementing a number of programmes and initiatives for the development of Science and Technology. It has taken major steps for higher training of science teachers and other promotional activities such as scholarships, fellowships, assistance, grants to enhance science and technology activities in the State, said Sri Ashok Chandra Panda, Minister, Science and Technology here. Sri Panda was speaking in the investiture ceremony organised by Odisha Bigyan Academy to accord award and felicitations to scientists for their remarkable contribution.
In a programme organised in Jayadev Bhawan Minister Sri Panda, while acknowledging the praiseworthy initiatives taken by the Academy said that we have a number of institutes of international repute of our State i.e. IIT, AIIMS, NISER, IISER, CRRI, IMMT, ILS and RMRC which are engaged in quality teaching and research. Department is also working for promotion of industrial and software sectors in the State. He extended best wishes to the scientists awarded in the function for their remarkable contribution as participant of the growth process in the State.
Mrs. Chitra Arumugam, Principal Secretary, Science and Technology, Planning and Convergence and Public Enterprises as distinguished guest in the programme said that science and technology has brought formidable impact on lifestyle and socio-economic scenario. She mentioned that various organisations working under Science and Technology Department are tremendously contributing for the development of science and technology through education, research, startup, fellowship, scholarship and other encouraging initiatives.
Prof. Bibhuti Bhusan Mishra, President of the Academy while presiding in the programme presented the welcome address. Prof Pravat Kumar Mohapatra and Prof Bidyut Kumar Das received “Biju Pattnaik Award” for Scientific Excellence for the year 2021 and 2022 respectively. The award carried cash award of Rs. 2 Lakh along with a medallion, memento, scitation etc. In the category of “Samanta Chandra Sekahar Award” for the year 2021 Prof. Hrudayanath Thatoi, Dr. Bikash Kumar Jena, Dr. Ashok Kumar Sahu and Dr. Narayan Prasad Padhy and for the year 2022, Prof.
Ramesh Chandra Patra, Dr. Bhagyadhara Bhoi and Prof Debi Prasanna Kanungo were awarded and were given Rs. 1 lakh along with citation and memento. Dr. Basudeba Kar, Dr. Swagatika Dash, Dr. Bishnu Prasad Biswal received Odisha Young Scientists Award for the year 2021 while Dr. Soumya Ranjan Jena, Dr. Uttam Kumar Panigrahi, Dr. Soumya Prakash Dash and Dr. Rekha Biswal received award for the year 2022. Pranakrushna Parija Popular Science Book Award were given to Sri Arun Kumar Patra, Dr. Asit Kumar Swain for the year 2021 and Shri Kartik Swain and Dr. Subhendu Patnaik for the year 2022. The young scientists and the authors received cash award of Rs. 25,000/- with citation and memento.
As senior scientist with remarkable contribution Dr. Subasini Lenka, Dr. Nikhilananda Panigrahi, Prof. Ganapati Panda, Dr. Dhirendra Kumar Das and Dr. Ramachandra Mohanty for the year 2021 and Dr. Suboda Kumar Sahu, Dr. Bijay Ketan Patnaik, Prof. Siba Prasad Adhikary, Prof. Satyaban Jena and Dr. Monaranjan Kar for the year 2022 were felicitated. Secretary of the Academy Sqn. Leader Prof. Ashish Kumar Mohanty proposed vote of thanks, while Ms Anuja Tarini Mishra coordinated the programme.
