Rekha Gupta: Delhi’s wait for its new chief minister ended on Wednesday night, with the BJP naming Rekha Gupta for the top post. Gupta, who will be Delhi’s fourth woman chief minister, will take the oath on Thursday at the historic Ramlila Ground.

Gupta won the Shalimar Bagh seat against AAP’s Bandana Kumari and Congress’s Parveen Kumar Jain.

She began her political career with the ABVP student wing. In the late 1990s, she also served as the President of the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU).

Gupta has held key positions in the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), serving as the Delhi unit secretary and later as the national secretary.

The official announcement was made at a BJP legislature party meeting in Delhi on Wednesday, setting the stage for new leadership.

The BJP swept the February 5 Assembly elections, winning 48 out of 70 seats and ousting the Aam Aadmi Party.

Many Union ministers and Chief Ministers have congratulated Rekha Gupta on becoming the chief minister.

Six other leaders will also take the oath as Delhi cabinet ministers. These include Parvesh Verma, Ashish Sood, Manjinder Singh Sirsa, Ravinder Indraj Singh, Kapil Mishra, and Pankaj Kumar Singh.

BJP’s Jat face in the capital, Parvesh Verma, defeated Arvind Kejriwal from the New Delhi seat in the Delhi Assembly elections. He will take the oath as the Deputy Chief Minister of the national capital.
