PM Modi in Thailand: Witnesses Thai Ramayana, Celebrates Shared Heritage

PM Modi in Thailand

PM Modi in Thailand:  Prime Minister Narendra Modi witnessed a captivating dance performance based on the Indian epic Ramayana, adapted as Ramakien in Thailand, shortly after his arrival in Bangkok for a two-day visit. The performance, staged at his hotel, featured a fusion of India’s Bharatanatyam and Thailand’s traditional Khon dance, presented by Ekkalak Nu-ngoen and students from the Faculty of Music and Drama at Bunditpatanasilpa Institute.

The Ramayana holds profound cultural significance in both India and Thailand, symbolizing their shared heritage. In the Thai adaptation, Lord Rama is known as Phra Ram, yet the narrative remains rooted in universal values of sacrifice, duty, devotion, and the ultimate triumph of good over evil. This artistic exchange underscores the deep historical and civilizational ties between the two nations.

Earlier today, PM Modi arrived in Bangkok, where he was received by Thailand’s Deputy Prime Minister Suriya Juangroongruangkit. The Indian diaspora extended a grand welcome at the airport, chanting his name and displaying enthusiasm for his visit. As he reached the hotel, members of the Indian community greeted him warmly, with performances of Garba adding to the celebratory atmosphere.

Today, PM Modi will meet his Thai counterpart, Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra, to review bilateral relations and explore avenues for collaboration in trade, investment, and connectivity. India and Thailand share long-standing maritime and cultural links, forming the foundation of their growing partnership.

Following his Thailand visit, PM Modi will embark on a state visit to Sri Lanka from April 4 to 6. There, he will hold talks with Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayaka, focusing on trade, infrastructure development, and regional stability.
