Monsoon

Monsoon : The south westerly monsoon is likely to advance into parts of south Odisha by June 10 due to the south-westerly wind flow from the Arabian Sea, the Centre for Environment and Climate (CEC) of Siksha ‘O’ Anusandhan (SOA) said today.

Under the impact of the south-westerly wind flow, the monsoon may advance into some parts of Maharashtra and Telengana and also in to some south Odisha districts by June 9 or 10, Dr. S.C. Sahu, Director of CEC, said.

The Arabian branch of the monsoon current was getting strengthened but the Bay of Bengal branch could become strong from June 15 after which the monsoon current is expected to advance into Odisha and other eastern states, Dr. Sahu said.

Warm humid weather with temperature (less than 42 degrees C) in the interior districts of Odisha and moderate temperature (less than 40 degrees C) in the coastal region will prevail till June 10, he said.

If the onset of monsoon is delayed, day temperature could reach 45 degrees C in the western Odisha districts and 40 degrees C in the southern districts between June 12 and 16.

Sporadic norwester (Kalabaisakhi) is likely to continue in different parts of the state during the period but its frequency could be more in the coastal belt, Dr. Sahu said.
