Precautionary dose of Covid 19 vaccine begin across country

New Delhi: Administration of precaution dose of COVID 19 vaccine for healthcare and frontline workers, and those over 60 years of age with co-morbidities has begun from today across the country. The Centre has issued guidelines stating that no new registration will be required to get a precaution dose. The online appointment for the precaution dose shots began on last Saturday where one can book their slots.

The CoWIN system will send SMS to such beneficiaries for availing the precaution dose when the dose becomes due. Union Health Minister Dr Mansukh Mandaviya has said that reminder messages through SMS have been sent to more than one crore healthcare and frontline workers and citizens over 60 year of age for receiving Precaution Doses. Prioritisation and sequencing of the precaution dose for the beneficiaries would be based on the completion of nine months from the date of administration of the second dose, which is 39 weeks.

All citizens irrespective of their income status are entitled to free COVID-19 vaccination at Government Vaccination Centres.
In the national capital, the eligible people in this category all turning up at various vaccination centres for receiving the precaution doses. The Precaution dose will be the same vaccine as were given to them previously.

According to Incharge of Covid Vaccination Centre at RML Hospital New Delhi, Dr Neelam Roy said that an overwhelming response is being seen among the Healthcare and frontline workers as well among the people aged over 60 years with comorbidities for receiving the Precaution dose.
