A former trusted police officer of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee- Bharati Ghosh has joined BJP and is now likely to contest the upcoming parliamentary elections.

Ghosh, who is said to have been close also to BJP leader Mukul Roy, joined the saffron party on Monday in presence of BJP leaders Kailash Vijaywargiya and Union Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad.

Taking to Twitter, BJP’s in charge for West Bengal Mr Vijaywargiya said, “The BJP family continues to grow in West Bengal. I welcome former IPS officer Bharati Ghosh to the party.”

Posted as West Midnapore Superintendent of Police,  Ghosh was once credited for her battle against Maoists but she later fell from Chief Minister’s grace and is at present under state CID scanner in an alleged ‘extortion case’.

For her part,   Ghosh, has, however, denied the charge.
