(UNI) Congress stalwart Kamal Nath was on Monday sworn in as Madhya Pradesh’s 18th Chief Minister in the presence of party President Rahul Gandhi, former Premier Manmohan Singh and numerous apex leaders of the United Progressive Alliance’s constituent units. Governor Anandiben Patel administered the oaths of office and secrecy at about 1430 hrs to Mr Nath during a grand ceremony at the state capital’s Jamboree Ground. The Chief Minister was sworn in alone. His Council is to be formed in the near future. The Congress has made a comeback to power in Madhya Pradesh after an interval of one-and-a-half decades.

(UNI) Syria’s Social Affairs and Labor Minister Rima al-Qadiri has said that 30,000 orphans have been registered in the capital Damascus and its countryside, the pro-government al-Watan newspaper said Sunday. A powerful quake measuring 6.1 on the Richter scale rocked Papua province in eastern Indonesia on Sunday, but did not trigger potential for tsunami, the meteorology and geophysics agency of Indonesia disclosed here.
