New Delhi, Nov 26 Terming the ‘Dignity for every Indian’ and ‘Unity for the country’ an essence of the Constitution of India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said that the Constitution has helped realise these objectives over the last 70 years,
Addressing a joint session of the two Houses of Parliament in the central hall on the 70th anniversary of the Constitution, the Prime Minister said, ‘If one were to describe the Constitution in a simple language, then one can say that the Constitution has helped realise the twin objectives of ‘Dignity For Indian and Unity for India’.
On the one hand , it has kept the dignity of the ordinary citizens above everything else while on the other hand it has helped to preserve the unity and integrity of the country.’’
Describing today as a historic day, Modi said, ’70 years ago we adopted our great Constitution. His dreams of the members of the Constituent Assembly took shape in the form of the words and values enshrined in our Constitution.’’
Remembering the martyrs of the 26/11 Mumbai attack, the Prime Minister said, ‘the date of November 26 also brings painful memories for us. It is a day when some terrorists had attempted to hurt our great traditions and age old cultural heritage. Our message of ‘The world is one large family’ was attacked upon by terrorists in 2008, during the 26/11 attacks. I pay my homage to all the martyrs who lost their lives in the cowardly terrorist attack.’’
