Odisha: Ostracising families on political grounds is unfair

Samikhsya Bureau

Politics creates differences and often things lead to situations those usher in violence. But, slowly the dynamics in politics have resulted in ostracisation of people is some thing, unusual.

In fact, it did happen in Puri district where over 30 families in Krushna Prasad block have been left in a state of lurch after being socially banished from the villages for keeping different political allegiance than others.

Exercising the franchise is something that a person enjoys the complete independence to vote for anyone.

But, in the case of about 30 villagers in Krushna Prasad, it has been alleged, that for last over two decades they have been coerced to vote in favour of one political party thus incurring the wrath of the others those who obviously dominate the situation.

The outcome of the ostracisation was enormous, as the isolated families were not only subjected to kinds of torture and penalties but mental humiliations as well. Which forced the aggrieved families to resort to demonstrations and which goes on since almost 2019 when the said families refused to vote the way they were asked.

All efforts for a middle path solution elicited no result towards an  amity, which has further complicated the deadlock.

It is an issue that must get the attention of the district authorities at the top to strike a solution as quickly possible.
