The BJP on Thursday slammed the manner senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad reacted to NSA Ajit Doval’s video ‘interacting with local Kashmiris’ that “money” can buy anything.
“I strongly condemn Ghulam Nabi Azad’s statement. Such statements usually come from Pakistan. Mr Azad should immediately tender apology as Pakistan will misuse his remarks,” BJP leader and spokesman Syed Shahnawaz Hussain told reporters.
Two other BJP leaders Ram Madhav and Amit Malviya also slammed Mr Azad, Leader of the Opposition in Rajya Sabha and also a former Jammu and Kashmir Chef Minister.
“Did you know Ghulam Nabi Azad, who led Congress’s opposition to Article 370, contested the Washim Lok Sabha seat from Maharashtra in 1980?,” tweeted BJP’s IT cell chief Malviya.
He further wrote: “Similarly another Kashmir politician, Late Mufti Mohammed Sayeed contested the 1986 LS election from Katihar (Bihar). Can we see the irony?”
BJP general secretary Ram Madhav said by making such statement that ‘money’ can influence all decisions, is the Congress leader also suggesting that those Congress leaders who have backed abrogation of Article 370 were also “bought” by money.
Mr Azad said he would be visiting Kashmir valley as he does regularly after all Parliament session.
“Paisey deke aap kisi ko le sakte ho (You can get anyone’s support for money),” Mr Azad remarked when asked about Ajit Doval’s video.
BJP spokesman Sambit Patra said – “Whenever good things happen in India, Pakistan and Congress party seem to speak in one language. Either Pakistan takes Congress line or vice versa. This is what happened today yet again (in reference to Azad’s remarks)”.
“The Congress party should tender apology today,” he said.
