Odisha to create world class sports facilities, connect Cuttack with Bhubaneswar by Metro rail:Guv

The Odisha government will strive hard to create world class sports facilities in Bhubaneswar, connect heritage silver city of Cuttack with smart city Bhubaneswar by metro railway and create 30 lakh employment opportunities in six focus sectors, governor Ganeshi Lal said.

Addressing the 16th Odisha legislative assembly in Bhubaneswar on Tuesday, Lal said the focus of the state would be transformation of a new Odisha, an empowered state where the poverty would be a thing of the past and women be equal partners of growth and development.

He said the state government will lay emphasis on agriculture development and farmers welfare as a major strategy for bringing poverty below 5 per cent over the next year.

The state government, the governor said, proposed to create Mission Shakti as separate department and form a state level federation and will pursue the cause of one third reservation for women in the Parliament and state Assemblies to its logical end.

He further said a Micro and Small Welfare Board would be formed to work for the sustenance and growth of those in micro and small enterprise sector.

Similarly, a welfare board will be formed for those engaged in traditional livelihood earning means like priests, barbers and washer men.

The government, Lal said, would make sincere efforts to register all workers in the unorganised sector as beneficiaries under the Odisha unorganized workers social security board in phases within five years to cover them under different social security initiatives.

The Odisha government, the governor said, had proposed to bring out a new industrial policy in line with the perspective plan with emphasis on creation of job opportunities. Best in class industrial parks will be established for each of the focus sectors and industrial corridors will be created for setting up of small and medium enterprises across the state.

The government will carry forward the benefits accrued from first and second Make in Odisha campaign in terms of investment and will endeavor to create 30 lakh employment opportunities in six focus sectors.

At least 75 per cent of job will be reserved for local youths in all the upcoming industries in Odisha. The world class skill centre, the governor said, would produce 1.5 lakh high skilled professionals who will have global employable potential.

Skill Odisha will be a made a global brand by the government and 15 lakh youth will be skilled in the next five years.

On promoting sports among the tribals, the government will laid astro turf in all the 17 blocks of Sundargarh district to prepare world class players from the cradle of hockey.
Puri, the governor said, would be made world class heritage city and all places of tourism importance would be linked and wayside amenities will be provided on all major roads.

Lal said the women in Odisha would now get Rs.10 lakh for their treatment instead of Rs.7 lakh under the Biju Swasthya Kalyan Yojana. (UNI)
