Twitter followers of outgoing Congress president Rahul Gandhi has crossed 10 million and Gandhi on Wednesday thanked them.
Just before starting the first visit to Amethi after his defeat by BJP’s Smriti Irani in the recently held Lok Sabha polls, Gandhi said that he will celebrate the ‘milestone’ with workers and supporters in the constituency.
“10 Million Twitter followers – thank you to each and every one of you! I will celebrate the milestone in Amethi, where I will be meeting our Congress workers & supporters today”, Gandhi tweeted.
Gandhi’s tweet comes in the midst that the Congress is in huge trouble as the party could not find a replacement after his resignation and its alliance government in Karnataka faces serious threat.
Gandhi had surpassed another party MP Shashi Tharoor, who was most followed Congress leader with 6.9 million followers in twitter, last year.
However, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is far ahead with 48.5 million following him.
Modi is the third most followed politician in the micro-blogging site after former US president Barak Obama and current president Donald Trump.
Congress bagged just 52 seats in the Lok Sabha polls, a dismal performance for the second consecutive time, against BJP’s huge 303 seat.
Taking responsibility of the defeat Gandhi had resigned on the second day after poll results were declared, putting the Congress in the lurch.
