The Supreme Court on Monday declined to entertain a plea filed by a Congress spokesperson, Aman Panwar, to defer the release on April 11 of a biopic on Prime Minister Narendra Modi after noting that the petitioner has to bring on record why he is seeking a stay on the film’s launch.
The bench was headed by Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi.
“At this stage, we are refusing to interfere with the release of the biopic. Let him bring the record, then we will see, what can we do,” the bench ruled.
The apex court also did not allow Mr Panwar’s plea to let him get a copy of the biopic movie.
Mr Panwar contended that the film, if released, would give PM Modi political mileage as Lok Sabha elections are around the corner.
