Senior Congress leader Abhishekmanu Singhvi on Tuesday paid rich tributes to the Late BJP leader Arun Jaitley and recalled the deceased leader’s ready sense of wit and sarcasm.
Speaking at the Shrandhanjali function organised here, Mr Singhvi shared anecdotes including the wisecrack Jaitley had made on Marxist leader Sitaram Yechury. “I have a number of instances of Arun’s ready wit. One was about a ghost writing leader who wanted the then Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee to release that book. Jaitley had accompanied that leader and told Prime Minister, Sir please release this book because it has not been read by the writer himself,” Singhvi added.
In another instance, Singhvi recalled the instance when Sitram Yechury had said in the Rajya Sabha that professionals, including lawyers should not come into Rajya Sabha as there is conflict of interest, Jaitley had countered him outside the House saying, ”Sita (Yechury) wants not only unemployed people to enter Rajya Sabha but he also wants unemployable people in the House.” The special obituary function was also addressed by BJP working president J P Nadda,
Akali leader Sukhbir Singh Badal and NCP stalwart Sharad Pawar. The function was attended among others by Late Jaitley’s wife Sangeeta and children– son Rohan and daughter Sonali. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and veteran BJP leader L K Advani were also present (UNI)
