Thiruvananthapuram, Nov 4 (UNI) Kerala Assembly Speaker P Sreeramakrishnan launched electric autorickshaw ‘Neem-GeAUTO’ here on Monday. He flagged off first trip from MLA Hostel, carrying Legislative members, to the State Assembly. Mr Sreeramakrishnan also flagged off 10 Neem-GeAUTOs manufactured by State-run Kerala Automobiles Limited (KAL), on the occasion.
E- autorickshaw priced at Rs 2.8 lakh per unit will have a Government subsidy of Rs 30,000, and it can be operated at a cost of 50 paise per km. The Neem-GeAUTO will be capable of travelling 100 km after a full recharge. It will take four hours to get fully charged.
Earlier, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said the KAL’s plant in Neyyattinkara, near Thiruvananthapuram, will have plans to roll out 50,000 e-autos on roads by 2022-end. The state government is also planning to launch electric charging stations across the state with the help of Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB). With this initiative, KAL, has emerged as the country’s first state PSU to get into the commercial production of electric autorickshaws.
