Guwahati, Nov 6 (UNI) The Bangladesh government will be hosting a two-day film festival in Guwahati, the main city of Assam, early next year.
“The idea of holding a film festival of our best films in Guwahati has been floated by the Information ministry of Bangladesh government,” Dr Shah Mohammad Tanvir Monsur, assistant high commissioner of Bangladesh in Guwahati, told UNI at the 3rd Guwahati International Film Festival (GIFF), which concluded today. He said the two-day festival is likely to be held in February next year and five-six best films of Bangladesh will be screened. “We shall be working in collaborating with Jyoti Chitraban for hosting the film festival,” Dr Monsur added.
Jyoti Chitraban (Film Studio) Society is under the Cultural Affairs department of government of Assam, and is the main organiser of the annual GIFF, which is in its third edition this year.
The success of GIFF has encouraged the Bangladesh government to moot the idea of having the single country film festival in Guwahati, Dr Monsur added. Two Bangladeshi films were screened at the GIFF this year, in the presence of their directors, cast and crew, before packed audience.
